Yolanda Gregg: Crafting Cocktails with Elegance and Empowerment

Yolanda Gregg’s journey into mixology is a testament to the power of art and determination. With a background in classical music, Yolanda views the art of mixology as a natural extension of her creative expression. “I love the arts,” she says, “and I’m a classically trained musician. The art of mixology appeals to my artistic mind, and I use it as another way to express myself.”

The Mezcal Paloma Spirit

If Yolanda could embody any cocktail, it would be a Mezcal Paloma. “Well balanced yet smoky, sweet, and sour,” she describes it—qualities that mirror her approach to both life and her craft. Just as a Mezcal Paloma strikes the perfect balance between bold and refreshing, Yolanda’s cocktails embody a harmony of flavors that leave a lasting impression.

Yolanda’s mixology style is defined by elegance and simplicity. She is meticulous about every element that goes into her drinks, ensuring that each cocktail is both thoughtful and approachable. “I try to put a thoughtful and elegant yet simple approach to making my cocktails,” she explains. This precision and attention to detail set her apart in an industry where overcomplication often reigns. Her cocktails are not just drinks—they’re experiences, crafted with care and designed to resonate with those who savor them.

Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry

Being a woman in the predominantly male-dominated bartending industry is no easy feat. Being a woman of color adds another layer of complexity. Yolanda is candid about the challenges she faces: “I constantly get overlooked or perceived as less knowledgeable than my white and male counterparts.” Despite these obstacles, she remains undeterred, proving her worth through her skills and determination. Yolanda’s journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and the resilience required to break barriers.

Rising to the Challenge

Yolanda’s competitive spirit has already earned her a significant win. In March, she competed against four male bartenders in the USBG’s Shake Up competition at the Bar and Restaurant Expo in Las Vegas. Not only did she hold her own, but she emerged victorious, securing a spot to represent the USA in the World Cocktail Competition in Portugal this October. Reflecting on the experience, Yolanda shares, “It has been a wild and wonderful experience.”

A Voice for Women in the Cocktail Industry

As Yolanda prepares for the 4th Annual Battle of the Babes Cocktail Competition, her goal is clear: to be a voice for women who aspire to dominate the cocktail industry. “I hope to be a voice for the women who want to dominate the cocktail industry,” she declares. For Yolanda, this competition is more than just a contest—it’s a platform to inspire and uplift other women in the field.

Experience Yolanda’s Artistry

Yolanda Gregg is more than a mixologist—she’s an artist, a trailblazer, and a champion for change in the industry. Her journey is a powerful blend of creativity, perseverance, and a passion for elevating others. As she steps behind the bar at the 4th Annual Battle of the Babes Cocktail Competition, her unique style and inspiring story will undoubtedly captivate all who attend.
